Biography

Milan Žvan, 1953, Maribor, Full Professor in the field of Sport Science – Kinesiology at UL, Faculty of Sport in Ljubljana from 25.03.2008. onwards. From  1.10.2007-1.10.2019, Dean of the Faculty of Sport. Prof. Žvan’s professional work in the Ski Association of Slovenia is highly recognizable, due to the fact, that he has actively worked there for more than three decades. First he started as head coach of women’s national team for European Cup Competition, and later as head of the junior teams of Yugoslavia and Slovenia. Especially the latter work, seems to be as his most significant contribution for the ski profession, because as head coach of the junior teams he had a big influence on the contents and implementation of training methods for children and younger athletes. The period of the late 80’s and the beginning of 90’s are recognized as the most successful period of children’s alpine skiing in Slovenia.

Since 1989. his work is closely related to the operation of the Ski instructors’ association of Slovenia. Prof. Žvan worked as a manager of Slovenian Ski Demo Team of ZUTS Slovenia and as a member of the State Ski Examinations Commission. He was official delegate for various international ski associations (ISIA, IVSI, IVSS, EUPEA …). Nowadays he is still contributing to the most sensitive part of skiing to the skiing school where he is involved in. Prof. Žvan is author and co-author of many professional and scientific publications.

At the Faculty of Sport in Ljubljana he started working as an assistant lecture for the Sociology of Sport. Also in this field of science he has some significant publications. Especially those which are strongly connected with social stratification and its influence on sport.

From 1997. is Prof. Žvan actively working as pedagogical teacher and researcher at the Faculty of Sport in Ljubljana.
